Thirty firefighters battled a blaze at a two-storey house in Laval’s Chomedey district early Sunday morning. Authorities say crews arrived at 4:59 a.m. to find flames on both floors of the home on Edmond-Rostand Street. The Laval fire department was assisted by Laval police and Urgence-Santé. Six people — two adults and four children — were evacuated and forced to relocate. Three people suffered smoke inhalation. The fire was brought under control at 6:48 a.m. Damage is estimated at about $250,000 to the house and $150,000 to its contents. The fire department said smoke alarms were present and that they have reason to believe the blaze may be criminal. Laval police have launched an investigation.
