A search is underway for a man in his 60s who went missing in the waters of Lake Stukely, located between the municipalities of Orford and Eastman in the Eastern Townships. The man, in his 60s, was alone when he set out in a boat on Saturday around 5:30 p.m., but he never returned. His disappearance was reported to police around midnight, and a search was launched despite the late hour. “The search was launched quickly with our partners from the fire department. They located the unoccupied boat on the lake around 1:00 a.m. tonight,” said Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). Reinforcements were called in to continue the search on Sunday at daybreak. “Several resources have been deployed to locate the man. The Sûreté du Québec’s helicopter is participating in the operations, as are [SQ] divers. The search is actively continuing to locate the man in his sixties and shed light on the circumstances surrounding his disappearance,” said Deshaies. - This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Aug. 31, 2026.
