Montreal’s light-rail network has resumed service after shutting down briefly on Tuesday during the afternoon rush hour. The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) said on social media that the entire network experienced a slowdown in both directions shortly after 4 p.m. before it came to a halt completely a few minutes later due to a “technical problem.” Shuttle buses were deployed to affected customers. At about 5:03 p.m., the trains were running again in both directions. The REM is running on a modified schedule that includes nightly network shutdowns on weekdays for the rest of September and the first week of October. The limited schedule also coincides with another STM strike affecting bus and Metro service that will last two weeks, ending on Oct. 5.
