The RCMP said officers in Quebec have seized more than 2.5 million suspected methamphetamine pills after busting a clandestine drug lab in the Eastern Townships. The lab was found inside a black trailer in a hidden room inside a warehouse in Bromont, Que., about 80 kilometres east of Montreal. Investigators were still in the process of dismantling it on Friday after the operation started on Tuesday. In addition to the suspected meth pills, the RCMP said Friday in a news release that it also seized nearly nine pounds of crystal meth, as well as large quantities of chemicals and excipients. “Searches also located a pill press, sophisticated equipment for the synthesis and large-scale production of suspected methamphetamine, and $3,600 in cash,” the RCMP said. During the operation led by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, officers arrested three people who were released pending further proceedings. They could face charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including production and possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. The investigation is ongoing. The federal police force has dismantled other large clandestine meth labs in Quebec in recent months, including two in a home and a commercial building in Lanaudière and Montérégie in March, and another one inside a residential garage in the Laurentians in February. The Mounties say clandestine drug labs pose a threat to not only the people who operate them, but also nearby neighbours and first responders.
