PQ says that, when in power, Quebec would be present in twice as many countries

Quebec would have representation in twice as many countries after a Parti Québécois government comes to power.

That’s one of the commitments outlined in a chapter of the Blue Book, presented Thursday by PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon at a news conference in a Quebec City hotel.

Quebec currently has a network of representations, offices, delegations and branches in nearly 20 countries.

A PQ government would raise that number to about 40.

According to the document, a cost-benefit analysis would determine which countries offer the greatest potential for Quebec to maximize its economic advantages and diplomatic influence.

The PQ aims to achieve Quebec’s independence by holding a referendum during its first term in office.

In the document, the party states that it wants Quebec to be among the countries best prepared to assume full diplomatic responsibilities once independence is achieved.
