Pedestrian dies after being hit by car near Highway 20

A 78-year-old man is dead after being struck by a car in Beaconsfield on Sunday morning.

Montreal police (SPVM) say they received a 911 call just before 8 a.m. reporting a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle on Saint-Charles Street by the Highway 20 entrance.

At the scene, officers found the victim lying on the road with significant head injuries.

He was unconscious and transported to hospital in critical condition, but later died of his injuries.

The driver, a 31-year-old man, is set to be interviewed by investigators.

He was going south on Saint-Charles and turned to get onto the highway when he struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street.
