The start of the fourth strike by the Montreal transit agency’s (STM) maintenance workers will be postponed by two days, following a court ruling that the submitted strike notice was not in compliance. The union representing the 2,400 maintenance workers, affiliated with the CSN, had issued a notice on Nov. 27 concerning an “overtime strike” to take place from Dec. 9 to Jan. 11. However, the Tribunal ruled that the notice wasn’t compliant due to an issue with the dates. This strike notice comes in addition to the previous strike notice from Oct. 31 to Nov. 28. Although that strike was halted on Nov. 12, it was initially scheduled to last until Nov. 28. However, the new strike notice was only submitted on Nov. 27, which was too short notice, according to the Tribunal. The maintenance workers’ union, therefore, issued a new strike notice on Monday evening. Rather than starting on Dec. 9, the strike will now begin on Dec. 11 and last until Jan. 11. The strike will take the form of maintenance workers refusing to work overtime. - This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 2, 2025.
