Montreal police seek suspect, witnesses in downtown hit-and-run that killed man in his 50s

Montreal police (SPVM) are renewing their call for the public’s help to identify a driver and any witnesses connected to a hit-and-run in the downtown area that left a man in his 50s dead.

The force’s collision investigation unit says the incident occurred in the early hours of Sept. 30, 2025, when a man was found unconscious near the intersection of René-Lévesque Boulevard West and Peel Street after being struck by a vehicle.

Police say they received a 911 call at 4:20 a.m., and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say witness accounts and surveillance footage indicated a vehicle travelling westbound on René-Lévesque Boulevard struck the man before fleeing the scene without stopping.

In a renewed appeal for information, the SPVM has released images of a vehicle model believed to be similar to the one involved, described as a black Audi RS5.

Investigators say the suspect vehicle may have damage to the front passenger side — potentially including the bumper and side mirror — from the collision.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the vehicle, or who may have dashcam or surveillance footage from the area around that time, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or their local police station.

Rewards of up to $5,000 may be offered for information that leads to the arrest of suspects, under certain conditions.
