Riding public transit in the Montreal area will get more expensive starting on Canada Day. The regional transit authority released on Friday the new fare schedule coming into effect on July 1, with price hikes for the majority of fares, including monthly and 10-ticket passes. The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) said it is maintaining the average fare increase at 3 per cent for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. “We are fully aware of the impact of the annual fare increase at a time when the cost of living is placing significant pressure on households,” said Benoît Gendron, Executive Director of the ARTM, in a news release. “Our priority is to ensure that public transit—which citizens rely on every day—remains affordable, while maintaining the financial stability and long-term viability of the network.” Single-fare tickets will remain unchanged at $3.75 per ticket, as will two-trip fares ($7). Here are some highlights of fares that are set to increase later this summer: Reduced fares for monthly passes are also set to increase by $3.25. The ARTM and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) both said last March, after the province unveiled its budget, that the funding falls short of meeting their demands on operating and maintenance costs across the network. The ARTM also announced Friday it is phasing out the use of REM transitional passes on the South Shore, which were introduced in 2023. As of July 1, REM users on the South Shore will need to buy the All-mode passes for their REM and bus trips. As a result the following passes will be removed from the new fare schedule:
