Man dead after fire in Quebec City’s Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood

A fire Saturday in an apartment building on Saint-Mathias Street in Quebec City’s Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood has left one person dead.

Authorities were called to the scene late Saturday afternoon and confirmed the blaze.

During the evacuation, a person was found unconscious, said a spokesperson for the Quebec City police.

First responders performed resuscitation on the individual, who was then taken into the care of paramedics.

The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.

At 7:40 p.m. Saturday, authorities declared the fire under control.

A security perimeter has been set up around the apartment building.

Investigators with the Quebec City police and the forensic identification unit, along with the Fire Commissioner’s Office, are on scene to investigate and determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
