Firefighter and resident injured in Montreal North apartment fire

Five families were relocated, and two were injured, including a firefighter, in an apartment fire in Montreal North early Saturday morning.

Montreal fire department (SIM) fire chief Patrick Fournel said the 911 call came in at around 2:45 a.m. about a fire which started on the first floor of a four-storey apartment building on Leger Boulevard, near Armand-Lavergne Avenue.

Eighty firefighters were called to the scene of the 45-apartment building.

One citizen was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, Fournel said, and a firefighter suffered a minor injury.

Five families have been relocated under the care of the Red Cross.

The fire was extinguished at around 5 a.m.

Officials have yet to determine how the fire started, and inspectors will be on the scene today.

The building was not destroyed.

“It could have been much worse if it wasn’t concrete,” said Fournel.
