Martine Biron, Minister of Higher Education and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, confirmed Thursday that she will seek re-election in the upcoming elections. On social media, Biron said she wants to continue her commitment to the voters of the Chutes-de-la-Chaudière riding, which she has represented since 2022. “Thanks to our teamwork, we have achieved several goals for the advancement of our region. We still have so much more to accomplish,” she said. Upon joining the National Assembly, the former Radio-Canada journalist was appointed Minister of International Relations and the Francophonie, as well as Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. During the fall 2025 cabinet reshuffle, she took on a new role: Minister of Higher Education. She then resumed her position as Minister Responsible for the Status of Women in April, following the arrival of Christine Fréchette as premier and leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec. \In her message published on Thursday, Biron also made a case for Fréchette’s leadership. “Quebec needs a strong economic and social vision. More competence and less political maneuvering. That is what Christine Fréchette’s team offers,” she wrote. Biron also said she wanted to continue fighting for women’s rights: “We have done a great deal to protect women’s rights in Quebec. Now we must continue the work.” The Chutes-de-la-Chaudière riding is located in the Chaudière-Appalaches region and includes part of the city of Lévis. The Conservative Party of Quebec hopes to make inroads in this riding in October. Radio host Dominique Dumas will be running for the party.
