A decade of turning right on red lights in Quebec

MONTREAL—It's been ten years since turning right on a red was introduced in the province, with the notable exception of the island of Montreal.

Right turns on red lights in Quebec started in August 2002. On April 13, 2003 most Quebecers were allowed by law to make a right turn on a red light, bringing the province in line with much of North America.

Over the past decade, the deaths of six pedestrians and cyclists have been linked to the right turns. At least another 30 people were seriously injured by vehicles turning right on reds.

There are no plans to allow the manoeuvre in Montreal.
