The Quebec government is being encouraged to implement dynamic electricity pricing, ban new natural gas connections and reduce the energy demand of the building stock. These calls for action are among the 14 recommendations in the ninth advisory report from the Advisory Committee on Climate Change, released Monday morning. The report, published at the request of the Quebec government, also emphasizes the importance of reducing the energy demand of the building stock and recognizing energy poverty as an issue of social justice and public health. The building sector accounts for nearly eight per cent of Quebec’s greenhouse gas emissions and also consumes about two-thirds of the electricity.
