Woman allegedly sexually assaulted after man offers help: Suspect arrested and charged

London police are seeking witnesses after they say a woman was sexually assaulted in the downtown core.

London police asked for the public’s help following a reported sexual assault on Thursday afternoon, and the suspect has been identified and arrested.

Around 3:10 p.m., police said a woman was walking in the area of King Street and Talbot Street when a man she didn’t know approached her asking if she was alright after she had some things stolen from her.

The man said he would help her find her belongings, and around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Thames and Bathurst streets, police said the man pushed the woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

The victim was able to run from the suspect and called 911.

The 51-year-old London man has been charged with sexual assault by police. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday in relation to the charges.
