More than a year after a driver who was allegedly impaired struck and killed a pedestrian in Abbotsford, a man is facing charges. On the morning of Feb. 9, 2025, a white Dodge pickup truck hit the individual in the 30000 block of Harris Road and knocked down a power pole, police said at the time. Despite the efforts of bystanders and first responders, the pedestrian—who has not been publicly identified—died at the scene. The man in the truck was arrested for impaired driving. On Friday, the Abbotsford Police Department announced charges have been laid against 29-year-old Prabhjit Brar. They include impaired driving causing death, driving with a blood-alcohol content over 80 causing death, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. “Incidents of this nature carry deep and lasting impacts, extending far beyond those directly involved. Families, friends, and loved ones often experience significant and enduring grief, with effects that can ripple throughout the broader community,” the department wrote in a statement. “These tragedies serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences associated with impaired and dangerous driving, and reinforce the importance of prevention, accountability, and continued public safety efforts.” According to ICBC, an average of 65 people are killed in impaired-driving-related crashes every year.
