The London Police Service has confirmed one of the victims of Friday’s fire at 745 Dundas Street has died. LPS says a 29-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries in hospital. There is no word on the condition of the other two people. The investigation into the fire has been reassigned to the LPS Major Crime Section, who will work alongside the Ontario Fire Marshall. Last Friday morning around 9:45, emergency crews responded to a working fire at the multi-dwelling residence. Several people were in the building at the time, including three who were taken to hospital with critical injuries. In a statement to CTV News Monday, the city confirms the building has “…outstanding Property Standards and Building Code orders that building ownership had been made aware of earlier this year.” Ward 4 Councillor Susan Stevenson issued the following statement Monday in response to the fatal fire: This tragic situation has been felt deeply by OEV residents - and their despair will only be heightened by the recent news of the passing of a 29-year-old woman. What happened was, very sadly, considered a predictable tragedy by many who know the area. With news that the investigation is expanding to the major crime unit, we must all wait to hear the details from authorities in order to respond responsibly. Hopefully those who remain in hospital will recover. There is a lot to discuss here. The damage has been estimated at $500,000.
