West Nile Virus has been detected in a mosquito in Tavistock. According to Southwestern Public Health, the mosquito was found in a trap and was found as part of routine testing. Public health recommends removing standing water around your property to reduce mosquito breeding environments and use DEET-based repellents to prevent mosquito bites. Mosquito traps are set up across Oxford County, Elgin County and the City of St. Thomas to monitor and test for the presence of West Nile Virus in the region. In July, a mosquito found in a trap in Woodstock also tested positive for West Nile Virus.
