An opportunity to check your skin for deadly cancers takes place this weekend in London. The ‘Mole Mobile’ Clinic operates on Saturday at the White Oaks Mall Walmart and on Sunday at the Clarke Road location from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., offering a unique opportunity for London residents to get checked. First in line at White Oaks was Marg, who requested her last name be withheld. She had arrived early at the clinic operated by Melanoma Canada. Dermatologist Dr. Denise Wexler was able to ease Marg’s concern about a growth on her shoulder. It was found to be noncancerous. “So, nothing at all to worry about,” Wexler told Marg. Marg had been worried for five months since seeing her family doctor. Wait times for specialists are lengthy. “I wasn’t able to get to a dermatologist. It’s a long wait, and I was able to see this come to London here, and I greatly appreciated being able to get in.” The mobile clinic is travelling the country to help combat long wait times and rising incidences of skin cancers. But even here, lines can be long, as people worry about their skin. “These lines can get massive. Sometimes, we get here, and there are 100 people lined up”, said Dustin Bick-Gross, an organizer. “It can get very busy, and it just shows the need for dermatologists.” In 2025, these clinics served 8,000 patients, screened 985 suspicious lesions, and discovered 222 melanomas. Dr. Wexler underlines the importance of screening. “Some of the skin cancers are relatively benign; they just grow in the area, and you can remove them. But others are not benign, and they can affect your life. So, it’s very important that they get diagnosed early.” While the mobile mole clinic will not return to the London area until next summer, Melanoma Canada reminds all that it remains vital that patients speak to a family doctor.
