‘Things are looking up’: London to emerge out of extended deep freeze beginning Tuesday

Temperatures are set to rebound following an extended deep freeze across the London region. CTV's Julie Atchison explains.

London will start to emerge out of its extended deep freeze as temperatures are set to rebound this week.

According to CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison, – 24.5 C was the temperature recorded at London’s airport just before sunrise on Monday. The previous record was – 23.7 C from back in 1994.

Atchison says the record when factoring in the surrounding area was in 1934 when the temperature plummeted to – 32.8 C.

Monday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of –7 C, feeling like –12 with the wind chill.

Atchison says a warm front will approach the region overnight, causing some light snowfall in Grey and Bruce counties, while London could see patchy freezing drizzle but mainly cloudy skies across the region on Tuesday.

“Forecast looks much calmer in the region as we head through the weekend. We have a fair amount of sunshine,” Atchison said. “The best news to share with you is temperatures are headed up for your Tuesday. We are going to dig our way out of the deep freeze.”

Tuesday’s daytime high will reach 1C, feeling like –10 with the wind chill in the morning. The overnight low will dip down to –4 C with cloudy periods.

“Things are looking up,” she said. “Temperatures are headed in the right direction, and we have lots of sunshine in the extended forecast.”

Temperatures make a rebound throughout the week with daytime highs ranging from 2 C to – 3 C, with plenty of sunshine expected across the London region.

“We’re going to be almost feeling downright spring like across the region,” Atchison said.
