Tense moments this morning in downtown London

London Police closed a block of Fullarton Street in downtown London between Richmond and Talbot to remove a suspicious package in a business, after being notified just before 7:30 a.m.

The package was rectangular and wrapped in black plastic, sitting on the street next to the curb. Police evacuated the building.

Just after 11:30 a small group of officers placed the item in a double-lined container and carried it to a large police vehicle. The package was found to be non-explosive, after members of the Explosive Disposal Unit, Canine Unit and Uniformed Division investigated.

The location is next to the Dominion Building, a federal office building, in the 400 block of Richmond Street.

The road has since reopened.
