The Barrie man police believe opened fire in a crowd of people and shot a man during an argument downtown over the Easter weekend and is expected to plead guilty. Daesean Sherk-White, 20, is accused of attempted murder and several gun charges in the shooting on April 5, 2026, along Dunlop Street East that left Jordan Sproats of Innisfil in serious condition. Sherk-White, who has been behind bars since his arrest days later, was charged alongside Amanda Haus, 33, and Olivia Thompson, 23, when police executed a warrant at a home along Fitton Street in Midland and seized a loaded handgun investigators believe was linked to the shooting. It is unclear what Sherk-White plans to plead guilty to as part of the deal. Haus walked into the Barrie courthouse Friday morning, where the Crown dropped all charges against her, including being an accessory after the fact to attempted murder in the shooting. Haus, who was granted bail in June under strict conditions, was charged with helping Sherk-White escape downtown Barrie. The Crown cited no reasonable prospect of conviction when it dropped the charges. She left the courthouse when loved ones covered her face with a jacket and helped her into a waiting vehicle. Thompson was released from jail in late September after pleading guilty to assault and stealing a cell phone, which witnesses said happened when the bars let out and an argument erupted among a crowd of people, leading to Sproats being shot. Security cameras captured the entire encounter. Loved ones told CTV News the bullet passed through the now-31-year-old’s chest, grazing his spine and lungs. He is recovering at home from the life-altering injuries. A bullet hole could be seen in the window of a bar across the street. Sherk-White remains behind bars and is scheduled to return to plea court in two weeks. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
