St. Thomas police laid 16 charges and issued seven warnings during an e-bike and e-scooter safety enforcement initiative launched in September. The initiative was launched in response to community concerns and focused on unsafe riding and violations of provincial and municipal laws. Of the 16 charges, five were for failing to wear a helmet, eight involved other e-bike-related infractions and three were for municipal bylaw violations. The charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act and municipal bylaws. Police are reminding riders to wear required helmets, ensure their vehicles are properly equipped and operate only where permitted. Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to review the rules with young riders before they head out.
