St. Thomas celebrates milestone birthday

Community members in St. Thomas celebrated the city’s 145th birthday.

“We always love a good party, and we want to party like it’s 1881; however, we wanted to bring out families and kids and everyone to support the city,” said Jennifer Babcock, administrative and communications assistant for the city of St. Thomas.

“It’s important to us to have community programs and events that are family friendly and why not have a celebration, even in March while we’re getting ready for spring?”

St. Thomas residents gathered at the Joe Thornton Community Centre to enjoy the festivities.

The evening featured a free skate, music, and food.

Joe Preston, the mayor of St. Thomas was also in attendance

“I’m happy to be here for the happy 145th birthday of St. Thomas,” said Preston.

“No, I was not at the first one but it’s great to see this many people celebrating the birthday of St. Thomas and watching the Stars (hockey team) win tonight and a lot of people here and we’re looking forward to seeing the win.”
