The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating following a collision between an OPP cruiser and SUV on Friday. According to a news release, at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Friday, police, along with fire crews and EMS responded to a collision involving an SUV and an OPP cruiser at the intersection of Petrolia Line and Kimball Road in St. Clair Township. The two members of the Lambton County OPP Mobile Crisis Response Team, consisting of an officer and a crisis worker, who were inside the police vehicle, as well as the driver of the SUV, were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Petrolia Line was closed from Tecumseh Road to Waubuno Road and Kimball Road was closed from Rokeby Line to LaSalle Line so police could investigate. As a result of the collision, the SIU has invoked its mandate. The SIU is an independent authority responsible for investigating the conduct of officials, such as police, that resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, or the discharge of a weapon at another person.
