Owen Sound police investigating fatal crash involving pedestrian

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Owen Sound on Tuesday night.

According to the Owen Sound Police Service, at approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a report of a serious collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian at the intersection of 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East in Owen Sound.

Police say a pickup truck travelling eastbound on 10th Street East was in the process of turning northbound onto 16th Avenue East when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The female pedestrian was transported to a London-area trauma centre, where she later died of her injuries.

Out of respect for her family, police say the identity of the deceased will not be made public.

Police say the pickup driver remained on scene and fully cooperated with investigators.

Members of the Owen Sound Police Service Collision Investigation Unit and Forensic Services Branch, with assistance of the OPP Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene.

The intersection of 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene and reopened at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

The investigation remains ongoing.
