Two people have been saved from a tractor in rising water near the Maitland River. On Thursday just before 1 p.m., Huron County OPP received a call from two Central Huron residents trapped in rising waters near Fern Hurst Glen Lane in Central Huron. Police said the people were on their tractor and were quickly surrounded by cold, fast-moving water. It was rising very quickly. Emergency services arrived on scene. They determined the best and safest way to rescue the two people was an inflatable boat. Once saved, they were taken to hospital for precautionary treatment. “The OPP is reminding the public to be aware of the changing conditions in and around Huron County waterways and especially the Lake Huron shoreline as the vast amount of snow received this winter is expected to melt quickly in the next several days and weeks,” said Const. Craig Soldan, media relations and community safety officer with Huron OPP. Huron County OPP thanked all emergency responders who acted quickly to save the pair from a potentially life-threatening situation.
