They will be tapping the kegs and dancing to polka music at the German Canadian Club on Cove Road in London. 2,000 people are expected over the weekend in the big tent for the annual Oktoberfest. “We’ve been doing this here for 94 years”, said Mike Marienwald, one of the organizers for the event. “But for the past 4 years its been under the big tent and it’s fantastic.” Besides the traditional German music and dancers, there’s the food and it’s more than just homemade pretzels. “We have German sausage and schnitzel, sauerkraut, red cabbage, potato salad and goulash,” said Friedhelm Hoffmann, organizer. With six bands on hand there will be plenty of dancing and of course Oktoberfest wouldn’t be complete without the suds. “The beer is Paulaner and it comes directly from Germany and it takes two weeks to get here by boat,” said Hoffman. Due to the success of Oktoberfest, Saturday night is sold out however, tickets are still available for Friday night, Saturday afternoon which is family day and Sunday afternoon. “I say Oktoberfest is now universal, but this celebration we have here is one of a kind,” said Marienwald.
