Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help identifying a man after an attempted break-in at a jewellery display inside a north Nanaimo Costco last week. Police say the incident happened just before 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at the store on Island Highway North. The footage reportedly shows the man looking over a glass jewellery display before trying to pry it open with an unknown tool. An alarm sounded during the incident, prompting him to leave the store. No merchandise was taken. The suspect is described as a white man between 50 and 60 years old, with a thin build. He was wearing a blue plaid jacket, a striped shirt, black pants and dark shoes. “Although no theft occurred, investigators are interested in identifying and speaking with this individual regarding the incident,” Insp. Donovan Tait, operations officer with the Nanaimo RCMP, said in a release. Police are asking anyone who recognizes him or has information that could help investigators to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345. The investigation is listed under file No. 2026-35444.
