The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has declared two more avian flu outbreaks at commercial poultry farms in Strathroy-Caradoc. In total there are now five outbreaks in the region. The latest were declared late last week. Almost 100,000 birds have been affected and culled. CFIA officials have established a primary control zone to prevent the spread of the virus. A permit is needed to move birds and any of their products or by-products. Meanwhile two dead geese in Woodstock’s Southside Park have tested positive for avian flu. Officials with the city say staff have received several reports of sick or dead birds in the park over the past few weeks, Residents should avoid touching any wild birds. Officials say human infection with the virus is rare.
