A storm that blew through the Elgin County hamlet of Mapleton on July 18, has been classified as an EF0 downburst. According to the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) at Western University, an affected area near 7 km long and 3 km wide was identified following analysis of damage survey results, radar imagery and submitted evidence. An NTP ground and drone survey done on July 20, showed damage and additional tree and crop damage. Estimated maximum wind speeds were 130 km/h.
