London man charged with sexually assaulting 9-year-old girl

A London man is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted a girl riding her bike in the south end of the city.

Police say a 9-year-old girl was riding her bike in the area of Ferndale Avenue and Dulaney Drive when a man unknown to her asked her to stop and talk with him at 8:10 p.m. on Sunday.

When the girl stopped the man allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Police say the victims’ father, who was out in the area looking to bring his daughter home for the night, observed the suspect sexually assaulting her.

When he yelled out and ran towards them, the suspect fled the area on foot.

Police were called and the suspect was located and arrested a short time later still in the area.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

The investigation was reassigned to the LPS Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old London man has been charged with one count of sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to reappear in London court on June 25, in relation to the charge.
