Impaired charges laid after driver caught using handheld device: OPP

Perth County OPP say one person has been charged with impaired driving after being stopped for using a handheld device.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 21 in the municipality of North Perth.

According to police, the driver was using a cellphone on Kincaid Street West in the Town of Listowel.

When police pulled them over, they noticed signs of intoxication and saw open alcohol containers inside the vehicle.

The 31-year-old Listowel man was charged with operation while impaired, over 80, dangerous operation, driving with a handheld communication device, and driving with liquor readily available.

The accused was arrested and taken into custody and faces a 90 day license suspension and 7 day vehicle impoundment.

He is scheduled to appear in court in February in relation to these charges.
