A 34-year-old local man is dead following a collision between two dirt bikes on a trail in Garden River First Nation over the weekend. The Anishinabek Police Service said they were notified of the collision shortly after 6:30 p.m. on May 30. Police and paramedics attended the scene and located a man with severe injuries. He was transported to hospital and “despite lifesaving efforts” was pronounced dead. Police investigation ongoing The First Nation’s police detachment is investigating the fatal off-road collision. “Preliminary investigation found that the two dirt bikes were travelling in opposite directions when they collided,” said police in a news release Monday. “Both riders were wearing helmets,” police added. Investigators said the cause of the collision remains under investigation and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Anishinabek police at 705-946-4196.
