Firefighters Without Borders, Kidde, the smoke alarm maker, and the National Indigenous Fire Safety Council are collaborating to bring free smoke alarms to Indigenous communities in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Quebec. Officials said they are distributing $400,000 worth of smoke alarms to 16 First Nation communities. According to the groups, Indigenous children in Ontario are 86 times more likely to die in a house fire compared to non-Indigenous children.
