Detours in place as London begins infrastructure work on Clarke Road bridge

The JW Carson Bridge on Clarke Road is closed starting today and will remain shut until Aug. 14.

The City of London says the closure is required to complete upgrades aimed at extending the life of the bridge and supporting future residential growth in the city’s northeast.

The closure affects Clarke Road between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Fanshawe Park Road East.

City officials say the bridge work is part of the 2026 Renew London infrastructure program, which includes about $285 million in new investments in roads, bridges, transit and underground infrastructure, along with another $100 million in projects already underway.

According to the city, improvements are being completed now to accommodate rapid growth in north London, where new neighbourhoods, housing developments and other projects are expanding.

During construction, northbound traffic will be detoured along Clarke Road, Huron Street, Highbury Avenue and Fanshawe Park Road East. Southbound drivers will be directed to use Fanshawe Park Road East, Highbury Avenue, Huron Street and Clarke Road.

Motorists should expect delays while travelling through the area and are encouraged to follow posted detour signs.
