Police in St. Thomas say a recent public complaint has launched a fraud investigation spreading from the Railway City to two Elgin County communities. Friday morning, OPP issued a public notice explaining that St. Thomas Police Service officers would be visible in the communities of Fingal and Springfield. In a phone interview with CTV News, St. Thomas Police Sgt. Jacob Beaton confirmed warrants had been executed at least two addresses in each community. The action follows a complaint made in St. Thomas. He declined to provide further details, including whether arrests have been made. He did say no one was physically harmed. CTV News witnessed officers at a home in Fingal but found no police presence in Springfield during the noon hour on Friday. St. Thomas police later issued a media release regarding a fraud investigation but stated that Friday’s action was unrelated and remains in the early stages.
