Cold, unsettled stretch ahead for London as snow and frigid wind chills return

Some snowfall is expected Friday with bitterly cold wind chills expected over the weekend. Here's Julie Atchison with what you need to know.

The London region is heading into a wintry few days as flurries, accumulating snow, and sharp temperature drops move through the region.

“We have a little bit of light snowfall as we head through the evening. This is in advance of an Alberta Clipper that will be moving through southern Ontario on a Friday,” said CTV News London meteorologist Julie Atchison.

“So snow in the forecast heading into Friday morning, snowfall amounts across the region will vary — in London, close to about five centimeters, north of London, upwards of eight centimeters."

According to Atchison, the other component to this clipper will be a strong cold front that will bring a big drop in temperatures for the weekend with frigid wind chills once again from minus 25 to minus 30 at night.

The snowfall amount totaling with the clipper system moving through will being close to 10 centimeters towards Huron County.

“I am expecting a snow squall to set up downwind of Lake Huron tomorrow [Friday] afternoon with the passage of the front, although the snow squall will be quite localized overnight. Temperatures drop down between about minus eight and a minus 10 flurries expected overnight and into tomorrow,” said Atchison.

Looking ahead to the weekend. a mix of something cloud Saturday and Sunday with frigid temperatures — daytime highs from minus 10 to minus 13 by Tuesday.

Thursday night: Cloudy. 40 percent chance of flurries early this evening. Light snow beginning early this evening. Amount 2 cm. Wind up to 15 km/h. Low minus 10. Wind chill near minus 15.

Friday: Periods of snow. Blowing snow in the afternoon. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind becoming northwest 50 km/h gusting to 80 early in the afternoon. High minus 3. Wind chill minus 8 in the morning and minus 15 in the afternoon.

Saturday: A mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of flurries. High minus 13.

Sunday: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 10.

Monday: A mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of flurries. High minus 7.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud. High plus 2.

Wednesday: Cloudy with 40 percent chance of showers. High plus 1.
