While London saw temperatures several degrees above freezing last week, this week will be a reminder that winter isn’t over quite yet. According to CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison, flurries and frigid wind chills are expected in London on Monday, with sustained winds of 40 km/h and gusts of up to 60 km/h. The daytime high will reach –3 C, feeling like –15 with the wind chill. Atchison says there are some lake effect flurries impacting Huron County, with slick road conditions north of London. Flurries will continue through the afternoon and into the evening with two to four centimeters expected, and only trace amounts of snow in London. Overnight there will be a 60 per cent chance of flurries, with the main weathermaker this week being bitter cold. “Expect bitterly cold temperatures overnight and first thing Tuesday morning,” she said. “Cold temperatures will continue over the next couple of days, especially those overnight lows.” In London the overnight low will reach –13 C, feeling like –20, and with winds becoming light after midnight. Atchison says come Tuesday there will be accumulating snow, with anywhere from two to five centimeters of snow arriving in midwestern Ontario through the late afternoon and arriving in London in the evening, with periods of snowfall throughout the overnight hours. Tuesday will see a daytime high of – 5, feeling like –19 in the morning and –13 in the afternoon with the wind chill. Atchison says that while southern Ontario will see a return of “bitterly cold wind chills” early in the week, temperatures will warm up near the latter half of the week.
