Adam Hall recently got a call he’d been dreaming of. The once highly touted baseball prospect will suit up for Canada at the upcoming World Baseball Classic (WBC). “Greg Hamilton [director of national teams with Baseball Canada] happened to give me a call one night and said, ‘Hey, if you can get healthy, we have a spot for you on the bench,” Hall told CTV News. Eight years ago, Hall was the top Canadian prospect in the Major League Baseball draft and was a second-round pick (60th overall) by the Baltimore Orioles. His professional career has been held back by injuries and under performing but now is a chance to suit up for his country, something he hasn’t done since he was a Grade 12 student with the Canadian Junior National Team. “I was really excited to hear the news,” said Hall, who will join a roster with Major League Baseball players like Tyler O’Neill, Josh Naylor, Otto Lopez, Bo Naylor, and Denzel Clarke. “It’s good to get back with Canada because it’s been a little while. I know there’s been a couple of events have had the opportunity to play for but just hasn’t worked out in terms of the professional season,” he said. The minor league free agent spent time between Double-A in Biloxi and Triple-A in Nashville with the Milwaukee Brewers organization. He finished the year with a cumulative stat line of 232/.321/.305 with one home run, 21 RBI, and 25 stolen bases. He would tear his meniscus late in the year after making a sliding catch in left field and jumping up to try to throw out a runner for a double play. “I had a knee surgery that I’ve been rehabbing and just kind of ramping up now,” said Hall. “In terms of talking to teams, minor league free agency is pretty tough for position player.” He’s hoping to use any plate appearances at the WBC as a springboard to a contract. He’s ramping up training at Centre Field Sports in London with a few other minor league professionals. In a month, he’ll wear the maple leaf. “March 1 is a report for kind of a bit of an early camp,” said Hall. “I think there’s a couple exhibition games down in Florida and then to Puerto Rico from there.” Canada’s first game of the WBC will be against Colombia on March 7, 2026 at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Puerto Rico.
