Two Guelph women lose a combined $50K in cryptocurrency scams

The Guelph Police Service is warning the public after two Guelph women were scammed out of approximately $50,000.

Police said both victims clicked on Facebook ads that showed pictures of Prime Minister Mark Carney promoting apparent investment opportunities. Police said the two women were then contacted by someone who claimed to be a financial advisor and gave them steps on how to allegedly purchase and send cryptocurrency.

Police said a 74-year-old woman lost more than $38,000 while a 59-year-old woman lost almost $11,000.
