Dozens of community events marked Calgary’s 13th annual Neighbour Day event on Saturday. It was launched in 2014 by then-Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi to recognize the community spirit across the city after the massive flood the year prior. The city helped fund 54 community association events across all quadrants, including one that took place Saturday in Brentwood. Along with food, arts and crafts and a visit from the mayor, Saturday’s event in Brentwood aimed to gather food donations for those in need. “I would say that people are struggling now more than ever,” said Liza Lorenzetti, of Brentwood Cares. “Just the economic affordability of food and housing is a real concern. And so I think as a community, we need to do better in supporting one another.” The fire department also stopped by dozens of events and brought an antique fire truck for people to explore.
