Serious head-on collision near Ariss sends five to hospital

Five people were taken to hospital, including a teen with life-altering injuries, after a crash near Arris.

A serious head-on crash outside of Ariss has sent five people to hospital.

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police say the two-vehicle collision happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday on Wellington Road 86 between Eighth Line East and Sideroad 16 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Emergency services responded to the scene. An SUV and sedan were found severely damaged.

All drivers and passengers suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, with the exception of a 16-year-old passenger, who sustained life-altering injuries.

“Vehicle number one—the SUV—had a 47-year-old from Woolwich Township [inside]. Vehicle number two, which was the sedan, had three children and one adult. The adult is from Palmerston...the ages of the people inside the sedan were a 37-year-old and the three children ranged from ages 16, 15 to a six year old," said Const. Matthew Burton.

Wellington Road 86 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the area at the time to contact Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The investigation is ongoing.
