Man found passed out in vehicle in front of LCBO, charged with impaired driving

A Guelph man is facing an impaired driving charge after police said he was found passed out in a vehicle with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Officers with the Guelph Police Service were called to a plaza on Wellington Street West around 3:20 p.m. Monday. A witness said they saw the man slumped over in the driver’s seat of an SUV, which was parked in front of an LCBO store.

When officers spoke to the man, they said they could smell alcohol on his breath and a search of the vehicle revealed several empty and partially filled containers.

The officer’s suspicions were confirmed when they took the man to a police station for further testing.

The 37-year-old was charged with impaired driving and failure to surrender proof of insurance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
