Guelph Police are reminding residents to be cautious when sharing personal information and intimate images online after a 15-year-old boy was targeted in an alleged sextortion attempt. Officers were called to a south-end residence Monday evening after the teen reported he was being asked for money after sending two explicit photos of himself through social media. Police said the person initially claimed to be a teenage girl before threatening to post the images online. No money was sent, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police are reminding residents that intimate images can be saved and redistributed without consent once they are shared online. They advise anyone who receives a request for intimate images — particularly from someone they do not know personally — not to comply and to stop communicating with the person.
