The Guelph Police Service has put out another warning about distraction thefts after at least two men lost gold chains over the weekend. Police said the first incident happened on Saturday around 8 a.m. An older man told investigators he was outside his home in the Brentwood Drive and June Avenue area when two people in a vehicle called out to him. When he walked over, the pair began praying in a language he did not recognize and a female passenger offered him a necklace. After the people in the vehicle left, the man noticed his 14-karat gold chain was gone. He described the duo as possibly an Indian couple. They both wore white and were driving a black vehicle. Later that same day, a second victim said he had been walking near York Road and Kingsmill Avenue when a couple in a grey SUV stopped and asked him for directions. While he spoke to them, a female passenger tried to give him a ring. The victim said the woman stole his gold chain while putting another necklace on him. Those suspects were described as a man and woman in their mid-30s. They may have been Indian. The man was wearing blue jeans and glasses. The woman was wearing a white and blue wrap. Police do not know if the two incidents are related.
