A driver had his licence suspended after witnesses said he hit several objects in downtown Guelph. The Guelph Police Service got a call about the driver around 10:20 p.m. They were told a vehicle had hit a staircase while turning onto Macdonell Street. Several other unnamed items were also hit. Police said the driver then ran through two stop signs and almost struck a pedestrian before driving off. A short time later, one of the callers said the driver had walked back to the area and was inside a licensed business. He was arrested and taken back to a police station where testing revealed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. His damaged vehicle was found in a downtown parking lot. The 19-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
