An American woman has been arrested for a series of unprovoked attacks in Guelph, Ont. At least 10 people reported their interactions with the woman between May 10 and June 7. The Guelph Police Service said the victims ranged in age from 12 to 73. “These interactions included physical assaults involving people being approached without provocation and being shoved or having their feet stomped on,” they explained in a media release. “On at least two occasions the subject brandished a hammer and chased victims with it. Two of the victims also reported their vehicle being damaged during an altercation with the woman.” All of the alleged incidents happened around Preservation Park, Hanlon Creek Park and Ironwood Road. Police released images of the woman on Monday and asked the public to help identify her. The next day, officers recognized the woman while responding to an unrelated call in the south-end of the city. She was arrested and taken to the police station. While there, she allegedly threw a shirt at one officer and tried to punch another. The 28-year-old from Connecticut was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, five counts of assault, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, assaulting a police officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000. Investigators learned the woman arrived in Guelph two days before the first incident was reported to police. They said she was visiting family in the city.
