Waterloo man charged for hate-motivated assault

Waterloo Regional Police say a 55-year-old man has been charged following a hate-motivated incident.

Officers were called to a disturbance, around noon Sunday, at Albert Street and Quiet Place in Waterloo.

They learned a man had approached four people and made “racial and derogatory” comments.

Police said he then assaulted three of the victims and damaged their property.

A 55-year-old man from Waterloo was arrested at the scene.

He’s been charged with three counts of assault, mischief under $5,000 and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
