Community members are getting a rare behind-the-scenes look at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium to celebrate the venue’s 75th anniversary. Since opening its doors in 1951, the Aud has hosted hundreds of attractions including sporting events, concerts and trade shows. The venue was built as a memorial to local men and women who served in World War II. A free open house was held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. to mark the milestone, giving visitors the opportunity to go on a self-guided tour. It featured five unique stops throughout the facility that highlight the building’s history and operations. Guests were given a passport to collect stamps at each location, and anyone who completed all the stops could take a picture with the Memorial Cup. The Kitchener Rangers, whose home area is the Aud, won the Ontario Hockey League championship trophy last season. “This open house is an opportunity for residents to celebrate that legacy while experiencing the facility in a new way,” said the Aud’s manager Ally Samms in a release. Attendees were also welcome to take part in a free community skate.
